Important Update: Lawsuit Against SJWD
As a last resort, Citrus Heights Water District (CHWD) and its neighbor Fair Oaks Water District (FOWD) filed a joint lawsuit against their wholesale water provider, San Juan Water District (SJWD). CHWD and FOWD elected officials, who represent about two-thirds of SJWD's population, unanimously backed the case. The districts allege that SJWD's rate increase illegally overcharges CHWD and FOWD customers.

CHWD supplies homes and businesses with water pumped from underground and water purchased from SJWD. With its current system, CHWD needs both water supplies to serve the community’s needs and remain resilient.
Citrus Heights Water District, Fair Oaks Water District, local businesses, and residents asked San Juan Water District not to approve these rates and to give the matter additional time and consideration. San Juan Water District’s Board of Directors simply voted to approve the rates over the opposition.
