Navigating Water Regulations
CHWD's Commitment to Customer Advocacy
The State Water Resources Control Board (Water Board) is in the process of proposing a new water conservation regulation. As part of a year-long public workshop, the Water Board aims to define specific water use budgets for water providers, including CHWD. By next year, CHWD will get its state-mandated budget.
Once finalized, this draft regulation will impact the District and its customers. According to estimates by the Regional Water Authority, if implemented as written, CHWD customers may have to reduce water use by 20% by 2035. CHWD's customers have already made huge strides in water conservation efforts, achieving nearly a 30% reduction in the past decade.
The District is advocating for our customers. On October 4, 2023, CHWD Board President, Ray Riehle, testified before the Water Board to safeguard local water control within CHWD. Emphasizing that the district comprehensively understands our customers' needs and water supply, Riehle highlighted the importance of retaining the flexibility to address these needs in a cost-effective manner.
